Cat #5: Abyssinian
This is the first cat I have copied from Ames’ book. Its not a bad effort but I think he looks slightly like he has a club foot.
Cat #4: Shadow sleeping
Today Shadow’s been pissed off because of the rain. However, he’s realised that if he runs around the house all soggy he gets lots of attention. He’s spent most of the day bolting out, in again and being towelled down. Whoever said Sundays were dull? I drew this picture from life this afternoon.
Cat #3: Shadow
Chris and I got Shadow from Battersea Dogs’ and Cats’ home in January. We were so lucky - he’s a really friendly cat, albeit a little thick (the cat-flap is proving a quite an intellectual challenge). He never stays still for long - so is not a natural life model… I drew this from life about 2 months ago.
Cat #1: Alfie
Ok, I’ll admit it, I drew this one ages ago - but I think it still qualifies as part of my project. This is my Mum’s cat, Alfie, drawn from life. Alfie is a cold-hearted killer who once managed to squeeze a live wood pigeon though the cat flap.
A few days ago I bought a book entitled “Draw 50 Cats” by Lee J.Ames. I enjoy drawing cats and figure that the best way to get better at is to do as the book suggest and draw 50 of them… I am going to copy stuff from Ames’ book, from photos and also attempt to draw my cat, Shadow, from life.
